Ligue 1: "A lot of sadness and frustration" in Lyon after the collapse against Paris FC

Jorge Maciel, assistant coach to Paulo Fonseca at OL, pointed to the team's mental shortcomings after the draw conceded on the pitch of Paris FC in Ligue 1 on Wednesday (3-3).

Jorge Maciel, Paulo Fonseca's assistant, after OL's draw against Paris FC (3-3): "I think it was mainly a mental issue. We weren't moving forward, we couldn't get the ball out. The midfielders weren't coordinating. That put us in a bit of a difficult position. Then, if you look at it, the first goal came from a set piece. The second goal came down the wing where (Ilan) Kebbal is very strong. He cuts inside with his left foot and shoots. [...] There are a lot of things we didn't do well. Otherwise, we would have won the match. But there are things we did well. That's what we need to analyze with a bit more perspective. We have the potential to do incredible things."

The only thing we can take away from today is a point. That's still important. But there's a lot of sadness and frustration, because we could have won. Abner's sending-off also changed the game. It threw us off a bit. You can't afford to take risks like that, especially at 3-0. It completely changed the second half. That's what shows the maturity of a team. At 10 against 10, we have more space, we can get more possession, we can be dangerous. And in the end, we stopped playing. We dropped back. We couldn't create any chances. It's a shame. It's something that will weigh on us.

I think Ligue 1 is stronger than the Spanish league; it's more balanced at both the top and bottom of the table. Today, we saw teams fighting to avoid relegation win against teams fighting for other things. I think the level is really high. I think we have a very interesting product. It's up to you and us to show the best side of the teams and the matches. Today, we have another full stadium. I thank our supporters. I wasn't even expecting it because I thought they were banned from traveling, and in the end, we heard them.
